I am not a thief' - convicted former Delta state governor, James Ibori

Convicted former Delta state governor, James Ibori, yesterday said he is not a thief at a thanksgiving service in his honour at the Oghara Baptist Church. Speaking at the service which was well attended by his family, friends, clergymen and others, Ibori said
"Today, I have decided to speak for myself, I am not a thief. I cannot be a thief. Today is the day they say I should give testimony to God. For those that know me, you know that my entire life is a testimony itself and I have said it over and over again that my life is fashioned by God, directed by God, sealed, acknowledged and blessed by God
and I believe that since the day I was born. Like Archbishop Avwomakpa said, when this whole commotion started, what was most painful to me was the pain and suffering that my people were going through. What I went through has nothing to do with me as a person because for some reasons, like I said to you, I drew my strength from God and somehow, I knew that God would stand by me. I knew that one day, this day would come. I am indeed very pleased that I can now stand before you and look at your faces, faces that I have missed and those of you that have indeed suffered the pains of my absence. It has nothing to do with me.”

Nicolas Cage's son arrested for DUI after crashing car into tree following police chase (photos)

Nicholas Cage's son, Weston Cage, was arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence, DUI, after he got into a minor car accident and fled from the police during a chase.

The 26-year old actor and son of actor Nicholas Cage with ex-girlfriend, Christina Fulton, was driving a Chevy Camaro on Saturday afternoon when he got into an accident in San Fernando Valley.
The father-of-one settled with the other driver and exchanged information before fleeing the scene for fear of the police being called in.

He then led the police on a chase during which he lost control of his car, veered onto a lawn, and took out a row of mailboxes and a street sign. His car was stopped after it crashed into a tree and he was arrested. Prior to his arrest, Weston stopped by at the hospital to get checked out for injuries.

This is not the first time Weston is getting on the wrong side of the law. In 2011, he was arrested twice for domestic violence towards his first wife Nikki Williams. He later checked into a rehab to treat alcohol addiction and came out saying he was now sober.

Update! James Ibori Facing Another 170 Charges From EFCC

Looks like the game is not over for a former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, who still has 170 charges against him pending before a Federal High Court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is said to have opened his corruption file and set to arraign him on charges of "massive looting! of Delta State, running into Billions.

Ibori arrived Nigeria through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

According to eyewitnesses, the former governor came into Abuja using a British Airways flight that touched down at the airport around 5.30am.

Family members and well-wishers were at the NAIA to receive the former governor.

He travelled to Oghara, his hometown, through the Benin airport while his family, friends and associates waited in vain for him at the Osubi airport, near Effurun in Delta State, where he was expected to land directly from Abuja.

A source, who confided in Punch, said the former governor would still answer questions from the EFCC and that the commission would soon invite him.

Following his conviction in the United Kingdom, there were criticisms against the Nigerian justice system, especially an Asaba High Court which had struck out 170 charges which the EFCC had brought against Ibori.

However, the EFCC took the matter to the Appeal Court where a three-man panel of justices on May 15, 2014, at the Benin Division of the Court of Appeal, ruled that the ex-governor, who is currently serving a 13-year jail term in a London prison, has a case to answer.

The Appellate Court panel led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa ordered that the case be reassigned to another judge of the Federal High Court for continuation of trial.

The EFCC subsequently said in a statement in 2014 that the ex-governor would be rearrested upon the completion of his UK prison sentence.

It was also gathered that Ibori was told that he could be summoned to appear at the DSS office at anytime for further interrogation.

PDP not excited about Ibori’s returnMeanwhile, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party was said to be weary of associating with the former governor.
A highly placed member of the party, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it would be wrong for them to start celebrating Ibori, a man who went to prison for stealing public money.

But speaking in Livingstone last week, she said she was deeply saddened by some Zambians who still refer to her past (of being a prostitute) when describing her.

She reiterated that she is now a changed person as she has left her past lifestyle completely.

24-year-old Indonesian woman looks and behaves like a toddler but menstruates (photos)

Sari Rezita Ariyanti looks like a three-year-old girl, but she is actually 24-years-old.

Born in 1993, the second of five children, Sari who weighs 20kg and is 87cm tall, speaks, acts and is as helpless as a child. She also cannot walk and has to be pushed around in a wheel chair.

Sari struggles to speak and only makes sounds which her mother alone can understand. She is totally dependent and lives with her mother, Suryani H Suud and sister Lela in Didie Jaya District, Indonesia.

In spite of her appearance, Sari menstruates every month like every grown woman and as with all else, she has to be assisted by her mother who helps her maintain hygiene during this period.
"I feel very sad. I see my first and third children and they are healthy but Sari is different," Suryani lamented.
''I was deeply shocked but thanks to God, Sari has siblings who love and take care of her. People would stare at us and others would ask 'why can't she walk and why is she so short?'
"When Sari was a baby, I used to take her to the market, and someone asked why does my first child and Sari look so different. I was sad, so I couldn't answer it." She continued.
Sari was born a beautiful baby and no one suspected she had a health problem until she was two-years-old and still could not talk or walk. Sari was finally diagnosed at 13 by the medical team at Ibnu Sina Hospital in Sigli City with a hormonal growth disorder and think the most likely diagnosis is Turner Syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects one in 2,000 to 2,500 babies - and only occurs in girls.

If treated early the condition can be managed but not cured, but Sari's family did not have money to seek help early for her.

Doctor Suriadi Umar, Sp. A at Ibnu Sina Hospital, revealed that Sari's delayed diagnosis could have also contributed to further developmental delays.
"Because of Sari's hormonal abnormalities, it is possible it affected the motor gland and can make her slower," Dr. Umar said.
"Because we didn't see Sari until she was a teenager, the muscles didn't respond quickly. If we had seen her at the age of six months we could have immediately consulted the parents on Sari's condition.
"God willing, now we know the core disease, we will see sari slowly move through treatment and physiotherapy."
Sari now undergoes physiotherapy once a week and her mother nurses the hopes that her daughter will be able to work and lead a full life.

106yr old Brazilian granny gets engaged to her 66yr old beau

It's never too old for love. Brazilian pensioner, Valdemira Rodrigues de Oliveira is believed to be the world's oldest person to get engaged after she said 'yes' to her 66yr old lover Aparecido Dias Jacob in a ceremony last Saturday. The lovebirds defied doctors' ban to go ahead with the engagement.
Medics had assessed their health and age and warned the duo, known as Valda and Jaco, would not be able to cope with living on their own.
But after three years together, the senior romantics, who have separate rooms at Nossa Senhora Fatima retirement home in Pirassununga, south east Brazil, were determined to prove age is no barrier to finding your soul mate. The elderly sweethearts exchanged engagement rings in a betrothal service organised by volunteers under an initiative called the 'Project of Dreams' and the event was no puny affair. It was lavishly decorated with a four-tier cake, flowers, cupid ornaments and scattered rose petals. Valda looked her best in a white dress with a fancy in her hair, pearls around her neck, nails painted and comfortable slippers.

She walked down the aisle with her Zimmer-frame decorated with roses.

Speaking about her love for her future husband, the centenarian said:
"I fell in love with him. I like him a lot. If he dies, I die too."
The two lovers have never been engaged and most of Valda's relatives have died while Jaco has lost touch with his family. At the altar, the couple couldn't hold back from sealing the occasion with a passionate kiss before taking their vows in front of the 150 invited guests.

After a short message and prayer, the happy couple said "yes" to stay loyal to each other and exchanged engagement rings. The lovestruck pair met at the residential home for the elderly in 2014 and it was love at first sight for Jaco, who suffers from paralysis of the left arm. He has been living in the home for 19 years after being homeless and unemployed.
He said:
"I fell in love with Valda from the moment I saw her. I know she's a little older than me, but that doesn't matter because she makes me really happy.
"I asked her to marry me and we always believed it would happen but getting engaged is a step forward for us right now."
The inseparable couple spend all day with each other, chatting, eating their meals together and sitting side by side in the home.
"I know it's not going to happen but I would have loved to be able to wash Jaco's clothes, cook his meals and look after him like a wife," Valda said.

Kim Kardashian continues testimony in Paris Robbery case

Ivanka Trump's brand dropped from luxury department store, Nordstrom

Nordstrom has revealed that they will stop carrying Ivanka Trump's brand. This comes after the Grab Your Wallet campaign, which called for shoppers to boycott retailers that carry Ivanka Trump or Donald Trump goods.
The department store chain which offers thousands of brands revealed that they decided to remove Ivanka's brand from their site due to poor sales.

“We’ve said all along we make buying decisions based on performance. In this case, based on the brand’s performance, we’ve decided not to buy it for this season,” a statement from the company read.
However, some believe the brand might have been pulled off due to pressure from the #GrabYourWallet campaign. The co-founder of the campaign, Shannon Coulter, felt so too and gleefully shared the news on her Twitter accounts, thanking supporters of the campaign for making it happen.
“I am absolutely thrilled, and I know the vast majority of Grab Your Wallet participants will be as well,” said Shannon Coulter.

Nordstrom was one of the first retail partners to stock Ivanka's footwears, and they had earlier faced criticisms from the Grab Your Wallet campaigners who tried to force the store to drop brands that belong to the Trumps.

In reaction to the criticisms, in November last year, Pete Nordstroms, Co-president of Nordstrom, defended its decision to sell Trump products.
“This is a sharply divisive subject. No matter what we do, we are going to end up disappointing some of our customers. Every single brand we offer is evaluated on their results -- if people don’t buy it, we won’t sell it.” Nordstrom said.
The company went on to post a response on Twitter to an open letter calling for Nordstrom to stop selling the Trump brand.
“We hope that offering a vendor’s products isn’t misunderstood as us taking a political position; we’re not. We recognize our customers can make choices about what they purchase based on personal views and we’ll continue to give them options.”
If the statement by Nordstrom is anything to go by, then it appears the customers made good on their threat and stopped buying, leading to a drop in sales, hence the decision by Nordstrom.

On Becoming: Maje Ayida moves to stop sales of Toke Makinwa’s Memoir | Threatens Lawsuit

Maje Ayida, the estranged husband of media personality Toke Makinwa has hired law firms from the UK and Nigeria to see to the stoppage of sales of Toke’s Memoir – On Becoming – released November last year.
Maje’s lawyers sent Toke a “letter of demand” to that effect.
Toke had written about her relationship with Maje, accusing him of cheating while they were dating and even after they got married. She also accused him of infecting her with Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).
The legal documents describe the book as nothing but “exaggerated fabrication,” adding that it contains “defamatory words”.
The law firms the fitness expert hired are Carter-Ruck, a leading defamation law firm in the UK to top figures like Simon Cowell, Elton John and Chelsea FC, while Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) of Pinheiro LP is heading the legal front in Nigeria.
Things fell apart between Toke and Maje in 2015 after the former discovered that the latter impregnated a lady while they were married.
TheCable‘s report read:
The Bone of Contention
According to the letter of demand sent to Makinwa, her estranged husband was said to have “requested legal separation” from her “within 6 months” of their marriage in January 2014 — “when it became clear that the marriage was breaking down”.
Toke was alleged to have signed a legal separation agreement in July 2014, TheCable Lifestyle was informed.
The letter said it was well documented that Makinwa and Ayida had agreed to separate by July 2014, which the book failed to record.
“The book misleadingly describes the circumstances at the time,” the letter read.
Pinheiro LP, the Nigerian law firm, said it was untrue that Maje had given her an “STI in the past or at any stage in their relationship.”
The law firm also noted that it was “highly misleading” for the book to allege that Maje “did not financially contribute adequately” to the marriage.
“The publicity sought by you has been relentless, and limitless,” said Adebowale Kamoru in the letter of demand, on behalf of Pinheiro LP.
Effect of the book on Maje’s Career
The law firm further noted that the publication has brought “public ridicule” on Maje, noting that his reputation has been “assaulted, injured and damaged.”
“His professional integrity as one of the leading health and wellness practitioners in Nigeria, and his professional credibility built over the years through dedicated hard work have been besmirched”, the letter said.
According to the law firm, Toke’s representation of Ayida in the book was “not a true reflection of who he is, his character and his background.”
Maje’s Demands
Maje Ayida, through his lawyers, has, among other things, informed Toke to retrieve the already-sold books and stop all forms of distribution, TheCable Lifestyle understands.
The letter mandated Makinwa to “withdraw from circulation all copies of the book and take immediate steps to call in all copies of the book already distributed and deliver up same at the place to be agreed upon by our client for destruction.”
It further said a failure by the popular celebrity to “retract” the “published words” and tender a full page unreserved apology to Maje Ayida in three national dailies “will result in the commencement of legal action.”
Makinwa was also advised to “take immediate steps” to stop the distribution of the books on Amazon, iTunes and all forms of promotion on her social media accounts.
She was given seven days upon receipt of the letter to comply with the demands or they’d be forced to seek legal redress.
The warning letter was said to have been delivered to Toke on Monday, December 23, 2016.
Toke is set to hold a book reading in Ghana on Friday, February 3.
It can’t be immediately confirmed whether she received the letter of demand.
See the letter below:

Cameroon to play Egypt in AFCON final as Ghana's 35-year wait for success continues

Goals from Cameroon's Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui and Christian Bassogog were enough to secure a 2-0 win over Ghana on Thursday night to place Cameroon in the 2017 AFCON final against Egypt in Gabon.

After sturdy defending from Avram Grant coached Ghana, who haven't won the nations cup in 35 years, Cameroon without much stellar names in their squad, broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute after shabby goalkeeping from Ghana's Abdul Razak, then at the cusp of full time , Cameroon had a breakaway strike that allowed Christian Bassogog to seal the result for Cameroon.

Ghana will have to wait for another two years to break the AFCON 'curse' while Cameroon will face favorites Egypt in the final.

Mother who was 'in a hurry' to get her children to school ran over and killed her two-year-old daughter on their driveway after getting distracted when she stopped to throw away a banana skin

A mother 'in a hurry' ran over and killed her two-year-old daughter on the driveway of the family home in a tragic school-run accident, a coroner has been told.
Amanda Qi reversed up the steep driveway in her car, not realising she had only her young son in the car and that her other child Karen was still outside.
She told Reading Coroner's Court that she had put her son William into her Toyota Prius but was distracted from securing her daughter Karen because she was throwing away a banana skin which was left in the car.

She got into the driver's seat and began moving before she felt a 'bump' and realised Karen was not in the car.
Mrs Qi rushed outside and found her daughter, who she called Qi-Qi, was neither conscious nor breathing.
'I made sure William had his seatbelt on and then I reversed and felt a strange bump,' she told the inquest.
'I realised Qi-Qi was not in the car. I realised she was not there.
'Sometimes she climbed in herself - she sits in the rear passenger seat on the left.
'I turned the engine off and went to the back of the car and she was lying on the floor next to the rear passenger side wheel. She was not breathing or conscious, I took out my phone to call 999 and other people came to help at that point.
'My neighbour said she was a trainee nurse, my other neighbour said she was a first aider and they did CPR on Qi-Qi.'
Mrs Qi, who attended the inquest with Karen's father, Frank Liu, described how she was in a rush to get the children to school on the morning of November 17 last year.
'We were often running late because of traffic and we were running late as usual,' she said.
'The last time I recall seeing her was at the front door of the house. I did not reverse back very far. I used the accelerater a little as there is a slope towards the house and I have to use the accelorator to move the car.
'The bump I felt was very slight, it did feel I had run something over.
'The reason I walked around the car was the day before William had left a banana skin in the car so I took the skin to the bin then I came back to the driver's side.
'I got into the car, opened the door and let William climb in. The front passenger door is where he normally sits - he has a child seat.
'He climbed in the seat then I got the banana skin. It was in the cup holder. I think she was next to the car because normally I open the door for William then open the door for Karen and she would climb in because she liked to climb in herself most of the time
'I rushed, I thought she was already in. I thought I had already fastened her into the seat.'
She added she had not waited for the Toyota's reversing camera to come on because she was in a hurry and was not yet close to the end of the drive when she began moving.
Jonny Nicholson, a paramedic, said that when he arrived to the family home in Wraysbury, Berkshire, at around 8.20 am there were no electrical signals from the child's heart.
She was taken to Wexham Park Hospital in Slough where she was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination revealed a haemorrhage to the right side of Karen's brain and a fracture to the right side of her skull.
It said: 'These fractures and the injury to the brain would have been fatal and incompatible with life.'
Police constable David Hannan, a trained forensic collisions investigator, compliled a report on the incident which said the rear-facing camera of the car combined with its exterior mirrors should have provided a good view.
'It is believed Karen was pushed to the floor and the rear wheel made contact with her head,' he told the inquest in Reading, Berkshire.
'The Toyota is equipped with a reversing camera to provide the driver with a view of what is behind. An examination of the vehicle found no defect. The Toyota would have been in most likely electric mode.
